A teenager is facing a list of charges following a gas station burglary inGloucester County early Saturday morning.

Franklin Township Police say the scene unfolded around 2:30 AM when officers were called to the Riggins station in the Malaga section of the township.

Cops at the scene say they saw signs of forced entry to the front door of the business, and they also saw a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed from the area. They attempted to stop that vehicle, but it failed to do so.

That vehicle was then located a short time later in the area of Catherine Drive in Franklinville and it again allegedly failed to stop for police, fleeing at a high rate of speed.

Officers were able to contact the vehicle's owner, who reportedly said that her unlicensed 16-year-old son had taken it without permission.

A short time later, the vehicle was located parked on a nearby street, and the suspect ran into his home, where he was eventually taken into custody without incident.

According to authorities, during an investigation, burglary tools were seen in plain view inside the vehicle, as well as clothing consistent with that worn during the burglary.

The unidentified teenager has been charged with two counts of eluding, burglary, possession of burglary tools, criminal mischief, and unlawful taking of a means of conveyance.

The department says they tried to have the teenager held in a juvenile detention center, but they were denied; he was subsequently released into the custody of a family member.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
