ADDENDUM: Since I filed this report, multiple well placed sources have confirmed that Senator McCullough will not been running for re-election.

Sources have also told me that McCullough may leave the EHT committee before his current term is up. This would open-up a vacancy for the EHT Committee to fill.

Here is my initial report:

SPECULATION...

Not confirmed, however, multiple well placed sources have advised me that long-time Egg Harbor Township Mayor James "Sonny" McCullough is nearing a decision to NOT seek re-election.

He has been a Committeeman or Mayor since 1988. It also appears that fellow Committeeman Frank Finnerty will follow along with whatever decision McCullough ultimately decides.

McCullough was also the New Jersey State Senator from District 2 from 2007-2008.

In yet more speculation, should McCullough and/or Finnerty decide to leave, former Atlantic County Sheriff Frank X. Balles may jump in.

Should McCullough leave, this is a big loss for the Atlantic County and Local Republican organizations.

EHT elections outside of McCullough’s local level success have become highly competitive.
