‘I Blame Former Atlantic County, NJ Utilities President for Bad Smell’
Atlantic County Republican Party Chairman Don Purdy is putting the blame for the terrible smell from the Atlantic County, New Jersey landfill squarely at the feet of Rick Dovey, the decades-long President of the Atlantic County Utilities Authority.
Dovey is currently running for elective office as a Democrat for Egg Harbor City Council.
About Dovey, Purdy said:
Is Stinky Dick Dovey going to stink-up Egg Harbor City, like he did the eastern end of Atlantic County? I Blame Former Atlantic County Utilities Authority President (Rick Dovey) for the Bad Smell, said Purdy.
Purdy also advised that Atlantic County Democrat Chairman Michael Suleiman is currently blaming Republicans for the bad smell emitting from the Atlantic County landfill.
Today, Absecon, New Jersey City Council President Nick LaRotonda, City Councilman and current Mayoral candidate Tommy Marrone and challenger Linda Evans have demanded a halt to any expansion of the Atlantic County landfill.
The three candidates issued the following statement about the Atlantic County landfill:
The ongoing odor emanating from the ACUA landfill has been a significant concern for residents here in Absecon as well as neighboring communities and is negatively impacting our quality of life. Despite repeated promises from the ACUA that corrective actions had been taken, the odor problems have resurfaced leaving us no choice, but to strongly oppose any expansion of the landfill's capacity as adding more trash would only exacerbate the problem. Our families deserve to live in a safe and healthy environment free from overwhelming and noxious odors which is why we are calling for this immediate action to ensure the community's welfare. Once the landfill reaches the currently permitted capacity the County should deliver on its longstanding commitment to finally cap the landfill and end this chapter once and for all.
LaRotonda ran a town hall meeting on this sore subject back in January, 2024, which current Absecon Mayor Kimberley Horton did not attend.
Horton has been Mayor of Absecon since 2019 and is seeking re-election this year.
