🚨Two victims remain in critical condition, while five others are listed as stable

TRENTON — Seven people were shot in a hail of gunfire in Trenton's capital city late Tuesday night.

Approximately 50 shots were fired shots fired in the area of Centre and Furman streets in the Lamberton section of Trenton around 10:30 p.m. Trenton police director Steve Wilson said during a press briefing on early Wednesday afternoon. Approximately 50 shots were fired.

The victims who range in age between 20 and 26 plus two 17-year-olds were all taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Trenton crime statistics had been trending downward in 2026

One of the victims is still listed in critical condition with other six  in stable condition as of early Wednesday afternoon

The shootings are under investigation. Wilson said the motive in the shooting is unclear.  No arrests have been made. Wilson said a semi-automatic handgun was likely used in the shooting.  Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora said its also not known if the incident was a shooting or a shootout.

"We are committed to finding those responsible and insuring they are held accountable.  Violence has no place in this city and anyone who choses to endanger the lives will face the consequences of their actions," Gusciora said at the briefing.

Statistics reported by Trenton police show significant declines in crime through May 3. There have been just 3 homicides in the city so far in 2026 compared to seven a year ago. The number of reported sexual assaults, robberies, aggravated assaults, burglaries, thefts and auto thefts are down by 20% compared to 2025.
