The Brigantine Beach Patrol wasted little time posting its plan for handling Hurricane Erin's impact on beaches, swimming, and boating as the severe storm passes South Jersey offshore later this week.

This action plan is an example of what every South Jersey beach will be coordinating in anticipation of Erin this week.

Hurricane Erin, which had exploded into a Category 5 powerhouse, was downgraded on Sunday to a Category 3, but rip currents and surf remained "life-threatening" to beachgoers along the U.S. East Coast, the National Hurricane Center said.

Even though Erin is predicted to be several hundred miles off the coast, it will still be close enough to give us large ocean swells, dangerous rip currents, and possible flooding issues in South Jersey.

Brigantine Beach Patrol Releases Hurricane Action Plan

The Brigantine Beach Patrol posted on Facebook Sunday, saying that beginning Monday morning, they would take the following steps to safeguard against Erin.

1- The ADA ( Americans with Disability) mats will be removed from the beach.

2- The trash can will be removed or relocated away from the beach.

3- Lifeguard towers will be moved to the dunes or onto paths.

4- Lifeguards will be removing boats from the beaches.

5- There will be swimming restrictions on beaches. You should speak with lifeguards before entering the ocean.

Brigantine Beach Patrol Asks for Your Help

In conclusion, the Brifantine Beach Patrol is asking for the help of residents and guests over the next few days.

We kindly ask for your cooperation as our departments work to ensure the safety and preparedness of our beach areas.
