Lake Lenape Park West in Mays Landing will reopen to the public this Friday but Atlantic County will not be holding its annual veterans memorial program this weekend.

In a press release, Atlantic County Executive Dennis Levinson said, "This would have been our 36th year of holding this program that pays tribute to the sacrifice and service of our fallen veterans and honors their memories and extraordinary contributions. It is always very meaningful and well attended. We are certainly disappointed, but during these unusual times the health and safety of our residents must take precedence."

While the program itself won't go on, the veterans cemetery in Estell Manor will be open to visitors. If you are planning to visit, social distancing guidelines must be met and all parking lots are limited to half of their normal capacity. And Levinson noted one tradition that will not be missed is the placement of American flags on the more than 5,500 grave sites.

Meanwhile in Mays Landing, Lake Lenape Park is slowing returning to normal. As of this Friday, visitors to the park will have access to the boat ramp, the lake itself, restrooms, and hiking trails; fishing is also allowed in some areas. Camping, pavilion rentals, and playground access are still off-limits, according to the county. Like at the veteran's cemetery in Estell Manor, parking lots will be limited to 50-percent capacity.
