United States Congressman Jeff Van Drew supported and materially helped to achieve passage of The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024.

The measure was approved on March 8, 2024.

Little Egg Harbor Township has been awarded $2,320,000.00, which will result in pedestrian safety improvements along Radio Road, including:

  • new sidewalks.
  • ADA compliant ramps.
  • crosswalks.
  • bike lanes.
  • signage.

I was happy to secure the $2.32 million of funding critical to the implementation of several safety measure enhancements along Radio Road in Little Egg Harbor Township," said Congressman Van Drew. "The infrastructure improvements along Radio Road are not just about investing in roads and sidewalks; it is about investing in the safety and well-being of our community. Through this project, we are ensuring the safe navigation of our streets for pedestrians and cyclists alike, and we continue to make South Jersey a safer place, said Van Drew.

This victory has been years in the making.

“Background work on this project began in 2021 when the Township invited the Greater Mercer Transportation Management Association to perform a pedestrian road safety audit (PRSA) on the Radio Road corridor to improve safety and walkability,” according to a Little Egg Harbor Township release.

Little Egg Harbor Township Mayor Blaise Scibetta said:

This was a joint effort to keep our pedestrians safe, to increase outdoor fitness and wellness and it connects the Township literally from the pinelands to the bay. Thank you to Congressman Van Drew, an advocate and true community leader for all of South Jersey, the Ocean County Commissioners and the Greater Mercer Transportation Management Association for assisting in Little Egg Harbor Township receiving this award, said Scibetta.

They will couple a recently obtained Safe Routes to School Grant, along with a New Jersey Department of Transportation Local Aid Grant and this Federal Radio Road Pedestrian Safety Grant; which will be used to improve the network of sidewalks and crosswalks across Little Egg Harbor Township.
