NJ Congressman Van Drew Campaign Calls Out ‘Sham Debate’
United States Congressman Jeff Van Drew, R-NJ-2 Campaign Manager Ron Filan is blasting a so-called “Atlantic County League of Women Voters sham debate scheduled to take place tomorrow night (Tuesday, September 20, 2022) at Oakcrest High School,” said Filan.
We interviewed Filan earlier today, and, he did not hold back.
”Let's be clear, this allegedly 'non-partisan' debate was organized by an active member of our opponents' campaign team who is all over social media recruiting Democrat volunteers, soliciting contributions for his campaign, and organizing protests at our campaign events all while spewing vile hate-filled rhetoric equating Republicans with terrorists,” said Filan.
“It was intentionally scheduled during a voting session of the United States House of Representatives knowing full well that Congressman Van Drew would be unable to attend,” said Filan.
”In fact, when our campaign first saw their press release announcing the debate - even though Congressman Van Drew and no Atlantic County Republicans were able to participate - we assumed this had to be a joke,” said Filan.
Van Drew’s Democrat opponent for New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District is Tim Alexander. General Election Day is Tuesday, November 8, 2022.
“It really is sad to see how Atlantic County Democrat operatives have hijacked a once well-respected organization like the League of Women Voters and absolutely destroyed its credibility and even more disappointing that they would allow taxpayer-funded resources to be used for what has always been a purely partisan political charade, said Filan.
Filan confirmed that Van Drew will be participating in a previously scheduled debate at Stockton University, which is set for Wednesday, October 19, 2022.
It remains unclear at this hour whether or not the Atlantic County League of Women’s Voters forum would still be held tomorrow night without Van Drew.
As “proof” that this event was partisan in nature, Filan stated the “Ro Goldberg is the Chair of the Atlantic County League of Women Voters. She is listed on the Atlantic County Democrat Committee’s website as someone who as recently as last year was holding fundraisers for the Galloway Township Democrat candidates in her own home,” said Filan.
