New Jersey Man the Latest to Die Mysteriously in the Dominican Republic

A 55-year-old New Jersey man becomes most recent American since early May to suffer a mysterious death while in the Dominican Republic.

Avenel resident Joseph Allen was reported dead last Thursday in his hotel room at Terra Linda​ resort after being discovered by a friend, according to Patch.com.

Several other American travelers have died recently at the Dominican Republic's Bahia Principe resort, allegedly after consuming beverages from the hotel minibar. The FBI is looking into whether those beverages were somehow tainted.

So far, there is no indication that Joseph Allen drank from his minibar at Terra Linda, but an investigation continues.

Allen's sister tells Patch.com that her brother was in relatively good health leading up to his trip to the Dominican Republic.
