A 14-year-old juvenile was critically injured in a crash with a vehicle on the Somers Point Bike Path at Ocean Heights Avenue at 5:57 Saturday evening.

Somers Point Police said in a release that the biker was in a collision with a vehicle driven by Tia Coppin, 25, of Atlantic City. Coppin was not injured.

The teen was initially taken to the AtlantiCare Trauma Center in Atlantic City and then airlifted to the Cooper University Hospital Trauma Center in Camden.

Many people familiar with this area have been commenting about this intersection on the Somers Point Facebook page since this crash occurred.

The general feeling is that this is a dangerous intersection that would benefit from some additional safety measures.

I asked 2 council members about blinking red lights on the stop signs with no action. People riding their bikes on the bike path ride it like a speedway, never stop before crossing and the cars rarely come to a complete stop. I myself have almost been hit walking my dog so I now carry a flashlight...


My opinion is pedestrians always should have right of way. There are children out riding bikes and some do not slow down to stop at the crosswalks. Also kids run etc. I have seen countless cars just speed through without looking...


I emailed and discussed this and asked to cut the bushes on Ocean Heights SP side and the bikepath. If you’ve ever ridden into Linwood, the bushes on the left completely block the view of oncoming traffic
