Police: Driver Fleeing NJ Traffic Stop Ran Over Officer's Foot

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP — Authorities say a Philadelphia man fleeing a traffic stop in New Jersey struck a police officer with the vehicle's door and ran over his foot before he was apprehended.

Gloucester Township police say the vehicle was stopped shortly after 12:30 a.m. Saturday in the Sicklerville section of the township and officers suspected that the driver was under the influence of narcotics.

Police allege that the driver refused to get out of the vehicle and drove away, striking an officer with the car door and running over the officer's foot.

Police said the vehicle came to a stop two miles away due to a mechanical issue and 20-year-old Oliver Lee of Philadelphia was taken into custody.

The officer declined treatment.

Police allege that they found suspected marijuana and packaging material along with a knife in the vehicle.

Police say Lee was taken to Camden County Correctional Facility and faces charges including resisting arrest, aggravated assault and assault by auto as well as weapon and drug counts.

It's unclear whether he has an attorney and a listed number for him couldn't be found Sunday.
