Two Fugitives from Delaware Arrested After Standoff in Atlantic City

Cops in Atlantic City say two fugitives from Delaware were arrested Wednesday after a standoff with authorities.

According to the Atlantic City Police Department, the scene unfolded around 7:30 Wednesday morning when officers responded to the 100 block of North Georgia Avenue to assist members of the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force who were trying to arrest 23-year-old Rahiem Jackson and 24-year-old Maya Hairston, both of Dover, DE.

Police say Jackson was wanted for a weapons offense while Hairston was wanted for charges in connection to a vehicle pursuit that she was involved in with law enforcement.

While cops were at the scene, Jackson and Hairston refused to exit a home and eventually a perimeter was established by the ACPD Emergency Response and SWAT Teams, which caused several roads in the area to be closed and some residents to be evacuated.

The ACPD says,

After almost of two hours of talking to members of the Crisis Negotiation Team, Hairston surrendered and was taken into custody. Negotiators attempted to engage Jackson for several more hours without success. At approximately 1:15 pm, SWAT Team members entered the residence and Jackson was located hiding under the kitchen sink. He was taken into custody without incident.

Interim Officer in Charge James A. Sarkos said in a statement, "The teamwork displayed by all of the first responders was incredible. Two dangerous fugitives were removed from the streets without any injuries to law enforcement or the suspects. This is a great example of the ongoing working relationships and collaborations the ACPD has with all of our public safety partners."

Both Jackson and Hairston were charged with fugitive of justice and were remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility awaiting extraction to Delaware.
