Education plays such a big part in every child's life. In fact, there are over 2,500 public school in our state with over a million students, according to NJ Department of Education.

New Jersey just released a new list of top 50 elementary and middle schools in state, and only one South Jersey school to made the list, according to NJ.com.

The schools were rated from 0-100 and most of the criteria used to determine the list came from results of the standardized test given to schools. How students showed improvement from year-to-year also factored in the ratings from schools all over the Garden State.

The only South Jersey school to make the list, at sixth place, was Cape May Elementary which earned a score of 93.54.

Coming in a #1 on the Top 50 School's List was Merritt Memorial located Cresskill, Bergen County.
