Joker and Axel, K9 cops on the Ventnor Police force, are the best team in the nation when it comes to sniffing out drugs.

I mention that to congratulate the Ventnor Police, and, also as a warning to any would-be druggies planning to hang out in Ventnor. That would be a big mistake.

According to a Facebook post, the Ventnor City Police Department's K9 Unit competed in the USPCA National Detector Dog Trials last week in Albany, NY.

The VCPD K9 unit consisted of K9 Lieutenant David Gaeckle with his K9 partner Axel and K9 Officer Marc Franco Jr. and his K9 partner Joker.

There were a total of 52 K9 teams competing from across the United States. The Ventnor City Police K9 Unit took first place nationally in the Teams Narcotics Competition. K9 Lieutenant David Gaeckle also placed 9th overall in the individual Narcotics Competition.
