We turn our attention now to a new batch of local student-athletes this week who have proven themselves worthy in their respective fields.

Lamont Harris, Football, St. AugustineThe junior starred in his debut as the Hermits’ starting running back, replacing 2012 CAL leading rusher Calvin Cass. He rushed for 239 yards and three touchdowns in a 48-14 victory over National Conference rival Middle Township.

Sa’Laam Horne, Football, St. JoeThe sophomore playmaker punished Absegami throughout a commanding 48-6 win and he did it in a variety of ways. Horne returned a punt for a touchdown, threw a 44-yard scoring strike and sprinted 76 yards on a touchdown run.

Courtney DeFalco, Soccer, OakcrestShe pushed the Falcons past Mainland on the road with a game-winning goal in overtime. DeFalco, a junior, gave Oakcrest a 2-1 win when she connected on a score less than five minutes into the extra session.

Rodney Williams, Football, Cherry Hill WestThe senior Syracuse commit contributed all over the field in a 30-24 victory over Paul VI. He threw for 103 yard and two touchdowns, gained 93 yards and a touchdown on the ground, kicked two extra points, and converted a pair of two-point conversions.

Maddie Peterson, Surfing, Wildwood Crest ­The 15-year-old surfing phenom snatched her first career pro championship on Sunday with a victory at the Foster’s Belmar Pro Surfing Contest. Peterson picked up a score of 9 on her final ride to claim a first-place finish.
