A Stafford Township Police Officer escaped injury early Sunday morning after his car was struck by a passing car during a traffic stop.

Cops say just before 1:00 Sunday morning, a Stafford Township officer stopped a car on Route 9 near Southern Regional High School.

During the stop, the officer's vehicle was struck by another vehicle, which was being driven by 31-year-old William D. Dippolito, Jr., of Lanoka Harbor.

Cops say Dippolito fled the scene, but was later stopped on Route 9.

Dippolito was arrested for DWI and later released after being issued numerous summonses, including DWI and Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident.

The officer who was in his patrol car when it was struck was not injured.
