West Wildwood, NJ, Police Officer Charged With Burglary, Simple Assault
Officials in Cape May County say a police officer finds himself on the wrong side of the law after being arrested over the weekend.
Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland says 30-year-old Dylan J. Keenan-Hannum of Del Haven, who is a police officer in West Wildwood, was arrested on Sunday morning and charged by the Lower Township Police Department with third-degree burglary, third-degree terroristic threats, and simple assault.
Besides saying the investigation into Hannum's arrest was ongoing and being handled by the Professional Standards Unit of Sutherland's office, a press release Monday afternoon did not indicate the circumstances behind the charges being filed.
Hannum was being held in the Cape May County Correctional Center pending court proceedings.
Sutherland urges anyone who may have information regarding this investigation to contact his office at (609) 465-1135.
West Wildwood is one of the smallest municipalities in New Jersey. At only 0.36-square miles in size, it has a year-round population of about 600 people. The department's website lists six officers, including Hannum, plus one segreant and the chief of police.
The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
