Atlantic County, New Jersey Prosecutor Will Reynolds methodically reviewed the many issues and took more than 1 1/2 years before announcing his plan regarding staffing within the Atlantic City Police Department.

Reynolds has worked closely with the community and Atlantic City Council Vice President Kaleem Shabazz and the City of Atlantic City’s “Clean and Safe” Committee.

This committee is organized and meets regularly to discuss the pressing issues, which effective solutions have proven to be elusive … regarding the many problems currently plaguing Atlantic City.

Reynolds wrote and distributed a letter that he unveiled at the last “Clean and Safe” committee meeting.

In part, it reads:

In the last 19 months, there has been a constant, never ending dispute over appropriate staffing levels and the deployment of that unknown level of staffing for the community, said Reynolds.

Reynolds has publicly called for the creation of an independent study commission to review the staffing of the Atlantic City Police Department.

According to Reynolds, there are currently 297 sworn police officers in Atlantic City.

An additional 30 officers will join the department following their police academy training.

Thus will increase to size if the department to 327 officers.

In a recent on-air interview with Tom Foley, he reminded our listeners that the City of Atlantic City had more than 400 police officers before the approval of casino gambling in Atlantic City.

The year 2024 is off to a disturbing and violent start in Atlantic City. There have been 5 homicides during the first 3 weeks of the year … as compared to a total of 7 homicides for all of 2023.

Something must be done about this, without delay.
