Atlantic City, NJ, Man Sentenced for Stabbing During Nightclub Brawl in 2022
An Atlantic City man now knows his fate for his involvement in a stabbing during a brawl at a casino nightclub in 2022.
Back in August, 27-year-old Dante Braxton pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree aggravated assault and third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
On Monday, he was sentenced to 7 1/2 years behind bars.
Incident Details
The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office says on the evening of November 24th, 2022, Atlantic City police were called to a nightclub inside Harrah's Casino for a report of a large fight. There, cops found a man who had been stabbed in the elbow and abdomen.
According to officials, after stabbing the man, Braxton followed the victim and then threw a metal chair at him outside the casino.
They also said that a further review of surveillance footage showed that Braxton went through a metal detector before entering the club, and although a metal detector activated when he went through it, security did not stop him.
Through surveillance and cell phone videos, officers identified Braxton as a suspect and during a court appearance, he admitted to stabbing the man.
Additional Sentencing
Braxton was also sentenced to concurrent prison terms on unrelated indictments after pleading guilty to possession of a controlled dangerous substance with the intent to distribute, obstruction, and contempt of a drug offender restraining order.
Braxton's cases were investigated by the Atlantic City Police Department with assistance from the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office. Assistant Prosecutor Chris D'Esposito of the Gangs, Guns, and Narcotics Unit prosecuted the cases on behalf of the State.
