We asked our listeners, readers and family and friend foodies to share their favorite food item on their Thanksgiving Day dinner menu.

We received feedback from 48 people. Perhaps it will come as no surprise to you that stuffing … various styles was mentioned more than any other food item.

In fact, 22 of 48 respondents picked stuffing as their big star of Thanksgiving Dinner.

I agree. I like so many things about our annual Family Thanksgiving Dinner … but, if I have to pick just one … it’s the stuffing … in my case, our Mother’s stuffing that has been perfectly replicated by my sister Karen, since our Mom passed away on May 1, 1976.

My Mother’s stuffing recipe is also great to make wonderful crab cakes, too.

The featured photo above and directly below is my wife Margie’s re-creation of her Mother’s stuffing. It’s known as “Ma’s Stuffing” and it is made with and without sausage.

Many of our respondents said “stuffing,” or “Homemade Stuffing,” however, some were very specific about their stuffing.

Such as, Bj Shockey-Jacobson, who wrote us, “Plain and simple home made stuffing.. celery, onions, in sautéed butter, pour over ripped bread and a little bit of milk .. stuff the bird.”

Here is one of my absolute favorite submissions from Jean Gibboni, who said, “Putting all of the leftovers in a pot pie for another meal!”

Here is Jean’s pot pie:

Michael S. Finnerty wrote, “Homemade mashed potatoes with a great beef gravy and it's not even close!”

Mashed potatoes, with rich, perfect gravy are my second favorite Thanksgiving Day food item.

Joe Elbertson encapsulates everything about Thanksgiving Dinner perfectly, writing thst “I like the usual, turkey, homemade stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce. But my favorite part of this meal is all the hot turkey sandwiches from left overs. Man I could eat that everyday.”

Here is a sneak peek at our Hurley Family voluminous Thanksgiving Dinner from last year. Margie and numerous immediate family members prepare all of these wonderful items for our feast.
