Atlantic City, NJ, Council Member Opposes Beach Bar Expansion
Atlantic City Councilwoman Maria Lacca has publicly declared her strong opposition to a proposed extensive expansion to The Chelsea Beach Bar.
Lacca, who represents Atlantic City’s 5th Ward has stated that she is “firmly and unequivocally opposed to the proposed expansion of the Chelsea Beach Bar,” said Lacca.
There is massive opposition to this project by residents of The Ocean Club Condominiums, who have been through a whole lot over the past several years … including many not being able to use their own balconies.
Lacca has met with residents of The Ocean Club prior to announcing her public position regarding this proposed project.
“Ocean Club Condominiums is in the heart of the Fifth Ward that (Councilwoman Lacca) represents and is the largest non-casino taxpaying building with 754 condominiums and approximately 1,500 residents. This proposed expansion would cause irreversible damage to both the beachfront and property values. A swimming pool, extensive decking, a heightened DJ stand, food trucks, and sheds would transform our peaceful environment into a chaotic, noisy, and overcrowded area. Atlantic City is a tourist resort. However, we have a strong residential community who contributes to Atlantic City every day. Under these circumstances, their voices must be heard, and we must NOT put a burden on the quality of life for our residents" said Lacca.
The Ocean Club residents do not want a 4:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. “block party atmosphere” said Lacca.
Lacca also said that, “The beach bar's lack of proper parking, trash disposal violations, and even the questionable use of a single liquor license for two distinct businesses only deepen concerns. These reasons alone raised by residents should be deeply examined immediately. As the largest non-casino taxpayer, contributing millions in taxes and supporting local businesses, it is beyond comprehension that this would even be considered. "The Fifth Ward has been under assault in recent times. We just won the fight against ripping up our streets for an Offshore Wind Project, and I am ready to fight yet again for our residents to ensure that their needs are met, and that this expansion does not occur,” said Lacca.
