We have confirmed that Atlantic City, New Jersey Councilman Bruce Weekes will resign his elected position, effective Wednesday, September 25, 2024.

Weekes made the announcement at tonight’s regular meeting of the Atlantic City Council.

New Jersey Superior Court Judge Michael Blee recently removed 5th Ward Atlantic City Councilman Muhammad 'Anjum’ Zia.

Zia was removed because he does not live in Atlantic City.

This means that the 9 member Atlantic City Council will be temporarily reduced to 7 members.

Earlier this week, Blee ruled that the 5th Ward City Council seat will be filled in a special election to be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.

This came as a surprise, because the New Jersey state statutes clearly state that a special election shall be held within 45 to 50 days following a vacancy.

Clearly, The special election should have been scheduled to take place in held October.

With Blee opting to make his own law and have the election on general election day, this is a big advantage for Democrats, who outnumber Republicans in Atlantic City by about a nine to one margin.

Many are asking why Weekes has decided to resign his City Council position.

We have known for weeks that Weekes (pun intended), was going to resign his position.

That has now come true. At the time we learned that weeks would resign his position, we were told that Weekes is going to accept a position with the City of Atlantic City.

This is not confirmed at this time, however, time will tell and we’ll know soon enough.

I i’ve made a number of on-air announcements over the past several months, Weekes had shifted from anti-Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small, to noticeably supportive of Small.
