Atlantic City Union President Muzzling Staff on indicted School Boss
When is enough finally enough?
La’Quetta Small is the Superintendent of Public Schools for Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Small has now been indicted by an Atlantic County Grand Jury on child abuse charges.
Prior to yesterday’s formal action of the Grand Jury, Small had been previously direct criminally charged by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
Small was never suspended by the Atlantic City Board of Educatuon.
That is the standard when an educator is criminally charged with child abuse. You are suspended, pending disposition of the criminal charges.
By comparison, Atlantic City High School Principal Constance Days-Chapman was immediately suspended when she was direct criminally charged by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
Today, we see another “first.”
The Atlantic City (Union) Education Association President has sent out a written directive to certified and supportive staff members of the Atlantic City Public Schools.
The directive seeks to muzzle the entire staff of the Atlantic City public schools from commenting about the La’Quetta Small criminal indictment.
This so-called union, should have been calling for many months for Small to be suspended from her position, pending disposition.
This is exactly what would happen to every one of the Atlantic City union members who would be in the same position as La'Quetta Small presently is.
Now the union leader is protecting Small.
The communication is an outrage, insofar as it calls for staff to not speak to the media regarding the Small indictment … but, it also instructs the staff not to express their own opinions on their own social media platforms.
A union is supposed to by nature to be adversarial to the administration. It’s all a part of collective bargaining, along with the day-to-day operations of a public schools system.
You rarely see a union president shilling for the superintendent in such an overt way
Here is the union president, Stacey B. Sweeny communication to all Atlantic City Education Association members as follows:
Now that La'Quetta small is formally indicted by an Atlantic County grand jury, it is the duty and obligation of the Atlantic City Board of Education to suspend her immediately, pending disposition.
Should the Atlantic City Board of Education fail to do its job, the state of New Jersey must immediately step in and handle the situation properly.
The City of Atlantic City and the Atlantic City Board of Education are under a takeover status by the state of New Jersey.
