Is it hypocrisy?

Is it Chutzpah?

Perhaps it’s a combination of both.

New Jersey Assemblyman Vince Mazzeo has hired Craig Callaway as a campaign consultant in each one of his victorious state campaigns.

That’s 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019.

In fact, without Callaway, Mazzeo would never have defeated former Assemblyman John Amodeo in 2013; the race came down to less than 100 votes.

Callaway has been the undisputed difference maker on behalf of Mazzeo.

Further, Mazzeo and his running mate John Armato were trailing Republicans John Risley and Phil Guenther by a wide margin in 2019.

It was Callaway’s vaunted vote by mail juggernaut organization which powered Mazzeo and Armato to a come-from-behind victory just two years ago.

Without Callaway, Mazzeo’s electoral career would have ended long ago.

Now, one week into early voting, Mazzeo and his fellow Democrats are trashing Assembly candidate Don Guardian for hiring Callaway as a campaign consultant.

That’s hypocrisy and that’s chutzpah.

Heres the truth. Callaway announced on WPG Talk Radio 95.5’s “Hurley in the Morning” early in 2021 that he “would never support Vince Mazzeo ever again.”

Callaway essentially fired Mazzeo and other Atlantic County Democrats as clients.

This is the only reason that they are trashing Callaway and the Atlantic County Republicans in the closing days of Decision 2021.

If they (the Atlantic County Democrats) could have hired Callaway this year, they certainly would have.

Callaway is going to have a major impact in Atlantic City, Pleasantville, Egg Harbor City and elsewhere.

In 2021, Callaway’s efforts will benefit a number of Republican candidates and not the Democrats.

For this reason and only this reason, certain Atlantic County Democrats have no alternative left but to trash the same person (Callaway) that they would have gladly hired.

The proverbial mid 19th Century saying, “Politics Makes Strange Bedfellows” sure does ring true in every way.
