We take this opportunity to mourn the passing of Cardiff, Egg Harbor Township Volunteer Fire Chief Gil Zonge.

Zonge was the current Fire Chief at Cardiff Volunteer Fire Company #1 the time of his passing.

The Original Egg Harbor Township Area Happenings 08234 Facebook page wrote a beautiful message as follows:

It is with profound regret that the Cardiff Volunteer Fire Company #1 announces the passing of our current Chief Gil Zonge. Chief Zonge answered his final alarm on 5/11/24 and entered eternal rest. Chief Zonge served the Cardiff Volunteer Fire Company #1 and the Egg Harbor Township Fire Department with distinction for over 30 years. He also served the Atlantic County Fire Community as an instructor at the Atlantic County Fire Academy teaching many of our current county firefighters. He led a life of selfless volunteer community service. Chief Zonge's contributions to the fire service and community will remain everlasting. We thank all of our partners in public safety for your continued support as we navigate this profound loss. Rest in peace Chief, your duty and service has concluded. Funeral arrangements will be posted in the future.

The leadership and volunteer firefighters who served throughout Egg Harbor Township are extraordinarily competent in the performance of their dangerous duties.

No paid fire department has anything on these consummate volunteer professionals.

The volunteer firefighters of Egg Harbor Township consistently display amazing response time to report to fires.

This is no small fete, as Egg Harbor Township has the most geographic size in all of Atlantic County, New Jersey.

Thank you Fire Chief Zonge for your more than 30 years of public safety service.
