Former Phillies Manager Charlie Manuel Suffers a Stroke

Former Phillies manager Charlie Manager, one of just two managers to win a World Series in Philadelphia, suffered a stroke on Saturday while undergoing a medical procedure.

Manuel, 79, was the team's skipper during their 2008 World Series win over the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Phillies have been informed that while undergoing a medical procedure today in a Florida hospital, Charlie Manuel suffered a stroke. The hospital was able to attend to Charlie immediately and subsequently remove a blood clot. The next 24 hours will be crucial to his recovery, and Charlie’s family asks that you keep him in your thoughts and prayers at this time.

Manuel, a popular figure among Phillis fans, returned to the dugout as a hitting coach in 2019 and is still around the team as an instructor in Clearwater during Spring Training.

He was 780-636 games in 1,416 games during his nine seasons managing the Phillies.
