
82-year-old Pedestrian Seriously Hurt Crossing Route 9 in Galloway, NJ
An 82-year-old man was seriously injured when he was hit by a vehicle near Historic Smithville last weekend.
The Galloway Township Police Department says their officers were called to the area of Route 9 and Moss Mill Road at about 5:15 Saturday evening, November 29th.
Police Investigate Route 9 Pedestrian Crash
According to authorities, an initial investigation revealed that a Buick Century, being driven by 64-year-old Mark Basham of Lumberton, was traveling southbound on Route 9. At the same time, 82-year-old John Vickers from Wall was crossing Route 9 from the east side toward Historic Smithville.
Cops say Vickers was not within a crosswalk at the time he entered the roadway and was subsequently struck by Basham's vehicle.

Pedestrian Seriously Injured
Vickers sustained serious injuries and was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center–City Division for treatment. Basham was uninjured but was taken to ARMC-Mainland for evaluation.
Galloway Police Issue Safety Reminders
In a social media post, Galloway Police reminded pedestrians to cross only at marked crosswalks, wear visible clothing during evening hours, and avoid stepping into the roadway from between parked cars or obstructed areas. Drivers are urged to remain alert, eliminate distractions, slow down in pedestrian-heavy areas, and be prepared to yield to individuals who are crossing legally.
The crash remains under investigation.
