2021 Mainland Regional High School alum, Chase Petty, took the ball on Monday night at Wrigley Field for the Cincinnati Reds against the Chicago Cubs.

"Honestly, growing up, it was a Top 3 park, Petty told reporters after the game about getting to pitch at Wrigley Field. I tried to stay poised and within myself and do what the team needed me to do."

Petty was called up to make his 2026 Major League debut after starting the season at Triple-A Louisville.

From Mainland to the Major Leagues

Petty acknowledged that he has learned a lot from his three MLB appearances last season, where he struggled, logging a 19.50 ERA in six innings.

The 23-year-old is likely headed back to Louisville, where he has a 4.38 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, and 29 strikeouts in 24 2/3 innings at Triple-A this season. However, he faced a solid Cubs lineup and showed he belonged, likely earning another trip to the big leagues later this season when Cincinnati needs another starter.
