Lumberton Township, N.J. — A Hainesport man is facing a murder charge after authorities say he stabbed his own aunt to death inside her Burlington County apartment.

40-year-old Jason Mutschler has been charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon

Victim Found Dead Friday Afternoon

Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia Bradshaw said an investigation began after 60-year-old Vanessa Sturtevent was discovered dead by a relative inside her unit at the Sterling Glen Apartments on Eayrestown Road Friday afternoon.

The Burlington County Medical Examiner ruled her death a homicide. An autopsy revealed she had suffered stab wounds to the head and neck, as well as blunt force trauma to her face and head.

Suspect Located in Hainesport

After an investigation identified Mutschler as a suspect, he was located in Hainesport by New Jersey State Police and charged after being questioned at the prosecutor's office.

A detention hearing will be scheduled soon in Superior Court in Mount Holly.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
