New Jersey State Police say a man was shot early Friday morning while driving on Route 55 in Millville.

Police say troopers responded to a crash on Route 55 at milepost 28.2 northbound.

They quickly discovered that a man, suffering from a gunshot wound, had crashed his vehicle.

Police say the man was taken to the hospital for treatment and was listed in critical condition. They have not released his identity.

Detectives at the scene determined several shots were fired at the victim's vehicle by an unidentified passing vehicle on the northbound lanes of State Highway 55.

At approximately 12:10 a.m., the victim was captured on video surveillance leaving the Wawa on Second Street in Millville and driving towards State Highway 55.

Detectives believe that the shooting may have been the result of an incident that occurred between the victim and an unknown suspect in Millville on July 23.
