Fire struck a Mays Landing home on the 200 block of Burning Tree Court on Monday afternoon, destroying the house.

The Fire Call Came in Early Afternoon

At about 12:31 pm Monday, August 4,  Township of Hamilton Police Communications received a 911 call about a structure fire on Burning Tree Court.

Emergency officials arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames.

In a Facebook post, Hamilton Township Police said the owner and only resident of the house was not injured in the fire.

The Intensity of the Blaze

TV news choppers flew overhead and took video of the extensive damage to the home.

CBS3 Philadelphia reported that the 911 call regarding the fire originally reported a house explosion.

Some neighbors said they heard a boom at about 12:30 pm on Monday.

The woman who lives inside the home told CBS News Philadelphia that, physically, she is OK, but has lost everything. She said she was outside when she heard a boom.

A neighbor on Burning Tree Court told CBS 3 he heard a boom and then saw the house go up in flames.

"I heard a big bang and looked out the door, and there was a big puff of smoke, so I went down to see what was going on, and when I got to the corner, I saw the back of the house was on fire.

But I wanted to make sure she was OK first, and then I saw her across the street. But then it just got fully engulfed, and the whole place just went up. It was crazy."

Township of Hamilton fire officials said that it was a house fire and not an explosion.

Townsquare Media's Chris Coleman visited the site of the fire on Monday evening and said there was really nothing left of the house.

Numerous Fire Companies Gave Assistance

Additional units were called in to assist from the Cologne Fire Department, the Mays Landing Fire Department, the Laureldale Fire Department, the Cardiff Fire Department, the Atlantic City Airport Fire Department, the Bargaintown Fire Department, and the Township of Hamilton Rescue Squad.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
