Millville High School’s football victory marred by post-game incidents
Millville High School won their much anticipated Friday night football game at John Barbose Stadium at Wheaton Field against Mainland, 40-7, thanks in part to a big night from senior Lotzeir Brooks.
Brooks racked up four touchdowns and 200 yards, however, it was events after the game that had people talking on social media.
Millville Public Schools' Facebook account put out a statement that said:
While we are incredibly proud of the Bolts' big win last night, unfortunately, events outside the stadium may overshadow the teams's accomplishment.
There were two minor altercations inside the stadium that were promptly handled by the two agencies.
The agencies mentioned were the Millville Police Department and the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department.
The school's account also confirmed gunfire in the vicinity of the stadium, which was also confirmed by Millville Police.
In response to the rumors on Facebook: the Millville Police Department would like to address that NO police were involved in the shooting at last night's football game. Several fights occurred following the football game, but were quickly stopped by police. The shooting did NOT occur on school grounds. Thankfully no one was injured as a result. If anyone has information in regards to the shooting please contact Detective Vit #209
Social media had plenty of fans of both schools mention the fights and gunfire, but thankfully, according to police, no one was hurt.
A friend who lives in Millville is reporting big fights at the Millville Mainland game and now a shooting on fifth street by the the stadium. Helicopter and sirens. Anybody hearing anything?
There were also videos posted of a helicopter flying over the area and many people saying they heard police sirens and shots fired.
