New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has made his decision regarding who he will appoint to the United States Senate.

David Wildstein, Publisher of the New Jersey Globe was the first to break this big story.

Wildstein has learned that George Helmy will be appointed to the United States Senate by Governor Murphy tomorrow, Friday, August 16, 2024.

Wildstein has also confirmed that Governor Murphy will make the offer to Helmy today. Helmy will accept the appointment.

Helmy was a record-setting former Chief of Staff (to Governor Murphy) in terms of longevity in the position.

Helmy was the most powerful non-elected official in New Jersey for almost 5 years.

I have had the pleasure to get to know Helmy. He is one of the most honorable public servants that I have ever known.

I effectively worked with Helmy on a number of different public matters. Helmy’s word is always good. He’s as decent a man as you will ever see in public service.

One of the highest compliments that you can pay to a man is to say that he is a good man. Helmy is a good man.

Helmy will serve for the remainder of the unexpired term of United States Senator Robert Menendez, who resigned after his conviction on various public corruption charges.

The fact that Governor Murphy did not appoint the current Democrat Nominee, Andy Kim speaks volumes.

Kim is facing the Republican Nominee, Curtis Bashaw in the November 5, 2024 General Election.

Had Kim not employed such a divisive Primary Election campaign, he likely could have earned the United States Senate appointment from Governor Murphy. That would have given Kim a significant advantage over Bashaw.

Bashaw is a big winner that this did not happen.

Instead, Kim litigated against his own Democrat Party and destroyed the preferential ballot placement that the regular Democrat endorsed candidate had long enjoyed.

This could hurt the Democratic Party in perpetuity going forward.

Helmy is a great selection, in the tradition of Jeff Chiesa, who served in a similar fashion during the Governor Chris Christie era.
