A Mexican national in New Jersey has admitted to distribution of cocaine and illegal firearm possession.

On Friday, 33-year-old Hector Riano-Corcuera, a citizen and national of Mexico and most recently of East Brunswick, pleaded guilty in federal court to distribution of controlled substances and unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

DEA Arrest Follows Cocaine Sale in NJ

Federal authorities say back in June, DEA officers arrested Riano-Corcuera after he sold approximately 10 kilos of cocaine to another person.

Prior to the arrest, Riano-Corcuera fled on foot from the officers before being caught. Once apprehended, officers recovered a loaded Sig Sauer 9mm firearm from a bag that he had been wearing.

Officials then executed a search at his home where they recovered more cocaine, two semiautomatic rifles, three handguns, and a variety of ammunition.

Federal Charges Carry Decades-long Prison Exposure

The cocaine distribution charge carries a mandatory minimum penalty of 10 years in prison, potentially up to life, and a fine of up to $10 million.

The unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon charge could send Riano-Corcuera to prison for up to 15 years with a $250,000 fine.

Sentencing is scheduled for May 13th.
