Feds: Mt. Laurel, NJ, Man Charged For Having 4 Pipe Bombs
Federal authorities say a Burlington County man has been charged for allegedly having four pipe bombs.
52-year-old Jeremy Giliberti of Mount Laurel is facing one count of possessing destructive devices. He was scheduled to appear in Trenton federal court on Tuesday.
According to authorities, on July 26th of last year, Hamilton Township (Mercer County) police officers stopped Giliberti's vehicle.
Traffic Stop Leads to Bombs
During a search of that vehicle, one of the officers allegedly found a duffle bag on the front passenger-side floorboard which contained four pipe bombs.
Two of the devices were encased in 5-inch steel pipes and two of the devices were encased in cardboard tubing wrapped in duct tape. All four of the devices contained numerous metal pellets, an explosive mixture, and a pyrotechnic fuse.
Potential Prison Time
The possession of a destructive device charge carries up to a decade in prison and a $250,000 fine.
U.S. Attorney Philip Sellinger thanked the numerous law enforcement agencies that have worked on this case, including agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in Newark, the Hamilton Township Police Division, New Jersey State Police Bomb Unit, and the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office.
The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
