A South Jersey man is facing charges after police say he carjacked a tow truck and then crashed into two vehicles head-on.

The Washington Township Police Department said the wild scene unfolded just before 2:00 Monday afternoon when its officers were called to the area of Delsea Drive and Salina Road for a report of a crash.

Tow Truck Operator Injured During Carjacking

According to authorities, an investigation revealed that the incident began as a carjacking. The victim, a tow truck operator for Riehl's Towing, had stopped along Delsea Drive near a Dollar General store to secure a vehicle on his flatbed. While doing so, an unknown man, later identified as 27-year-old Dylan Davis of Mantua, got into the tow truck and drove off, causing the victim to fall from the vehicle and sustain injuries.

Davis then allegedly drove the stolen tow truck erratically, crossing into oncoming traffic, and striking two vehicles head-on on Delsea Drive. Both drivers were injured and taken to area hospitals for treatment.

Officials said Davis then fled the crash scene on foot, but he was quickly located and taken into custody.

Based on observations at the scene, officers suspected Davis was under the influence. A telephonic search warrant for a blood draw was obtained and executed at Cooper University Hospital.

Charges Filed

Davis has been charged with first-degree carjacking, third-degree theft of a motor vehicle, two counts of assault by auto, and driving while intoxicated.

Police said this remains an active investigation and additional charges may be filed.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
