After 22 years in business, the South Vineland Tavern has closed its doors.

Cumberland County's South Vineland Tavern, a mainstay on Main Rd. and Grant Ave. in Vineland, officially said 'goodbye' to its loyal patrons this past Saturday, reports Courier Post.

Larry Hurst, the establishment's longtime bar manager, passed away in October 2019. That loss, couple with the coronavirus pandemic, which forced the shutdown of many South Jersey businesses just a few short months into 2020, including South Vineland Tavern, its owner John Forosisky reportedly just couldn't keep the bar running anymore.

Relying on take-out food order and, just recently, 25 percent capacity in-bar business, wasn't enough to sustain the South Vineland Tavern. The lack of revenue has made it nearly impossible for 71-year-old Forosisky to pay the bar's bills.

South Vineland Tavern has a long history in Cumberland County. Forosisky purchased it back in 1998, partnering himself with bar manager Larry Hurst to make the bar more than just a local watering hole. It reportedly also became a spot also known for good food at good prices.

The shutdown of South Vineland Tavern has clearly had an emotional impact on its regulars. Click here to read reactions from local patrons.
