New Jersey Governor-Elect Wants To Withhold Federal Tax Payments
New Jersey Governor-Elect Mikie Sherrill recently appeared with Virginia Governor-Elect Abigail Spanberger on “The Weekly Show with Jon Stewart.“
Governor-Elect Sherrill Talked About Withholding Federal Tax Payments
Sherrill is right about the fact that New Jersey gets a bum deal in terms of federal tax dollars that are sent to Washington by New Jersey taxpayers versus federal tax dollars received back in return.
Sherrill said that New Jersey taxpayers send about $ 70 billion more to Washington each year than it gets back in return.
Sherrill said that the imbalance is “untenable" and called it a punitive federal policy.
Many States Receive More Federal Government Funding Than New Jersey
31 states and Washington, D.C. all receive more in federal funding than they pay to the federal government in return.
New Mexico, West Virginia, Alaska, Mississippi, and Alabama consistently appear on this good list.
- New Mexico receives $ 3.40 for every dollar that they send to Washington, D.C.
- West Virginia receives $ 2.91 in return for every dollar that they send.
- Mississippi receives $ 2.66
- Alaska receives $ 2.65.
- Alabama receives $ 1.90.
Sherrill Said To Jon Stewart
If Washington won't deliver for the people, then states will have to start finding ways to deliver for themselves, said Sherrill.
Is It Just Political Rhetoric?
I have no idea how Governor-Elect Sherrill could do as she says here?
The reality is that individuals and businesses pay federal taxes, not the state government directly. How can she withhold federal tax payments?
it appears that just like a so-called electrical energy cost freeze (that Sherrill campaigned on) … Governor-Elect Sherrill has absolutely no authority to stop federal taxes from being paid.
