Atlantic City Area: Move Along, Nothing to See Here; Shrinkflation?
This is an unopened bag of cereal. It’s my unopened bag of cereal.
I didn’t crush the contents and try to shake it to the bottom for some kind of false effect.
I merely opened the box and couldn’t believe what I saw … or, didn’t see.
We have all heard about the explanation of settling of contents has occurred during shipping.
Things are getting beyond ridiculous.
Here is my unopened bag of cereal.
Shrinkflation is real and it certainly appears to be getting worse.
We’ve heard it all before. The contents are sold by weight.
I’m not disputing that, or, attempting to malign anyone.
I just know what my eyes have seen over the years.
See my most recent bag of cereal (below):
Without taking a slide rule measurement, it appears to be about 1/3 full.
This started out as a Facebook post. However, there was immediate snd enthusiastic interest in this topic, so I decided to write this article about shrinkflation.
Here are a few of the comments that my social media post generated:
Santos Santos wrote, “Shrinkflation is real.”
Heather Martina, “Such a waste of plastic.”
Robert Seylhouwer, “The only thing that settled was the $$ going to corporate pockets.”
Michael Dangelo, “Government is making it impossible to be a manufacturer. Regulations, insurance, wages, ss and taxes destroy everything. Having started in the bakery manufacturing business 4 years, my eyes have been opened to all of these issues, plus transportation costs, and on demand order fulfilments costs. Dot foods fees.”
John Barillaro, “Must have been a long trip.”
Joan Brancato, “How sad!”
Bj Shockey-Jacobson
Michael Mittelman, “Must be inflation. Cant be the administration says there isn't. Got to believe the Government we have. NOT.”
Michelle Schunk, “Shrinkflation Bidenenomics.”
Guy Francis Buscemi, “Right.”
The interest in a topic like this is because it is so relatable to everyone.
And, it’s not just cereal. It’s potato chips. It’s also, that bag of chicken that used to have six pieces in it and now it has five… And, it costs more.
We’re living in times when prices are out of control, where you are expected to pay more for less.
