An Atlantic City man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for the December, 2016, shooting death of a woman in the city.

This past Thursday, 45-year-old Joseph McCoy was sentenced for the murder of Jacqueline Hoyle. He was also sentenced to concurrent prison terms for Unlawful Possession of a Handgun and Certain Person Not to Possess a Handgun.

Authorities say Atlantic City Police responded to a home on North Tennessee Avenue in the early morning hours of December 20, 2016. The report indicated that a woman had been found dead inside the home. That woman was 24-year-old Jacqueline Hoyle, who has been shot. Following a two-day-long investigation, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Atlantic City resident Joseph McCoy.

In a press release, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner said, "The fairness of our justice system will permit this killer to live, albeit in prison, for the next fifty years. He didn’t give Jacqueline Hoyle that same chance when he cut her life short."
