Felon From Camden, NJ, Gets Nearly 11 Years for Fentanyl, Gun

Federal authorities say a man from Camden, who has four prior felony convictions, will spend the next decade behind bars for possessing fentanyl and a gun.

According to U.S. Attorney Philip Sellinger, 30-year-old Tyquan Burrell previously pleaded guilty to two counts of an indictment charging him with possession with intent to distribute more than 400 grams of fentanyl and illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

His 130-month sentence was imposed on Thursday.

On Oct. 1, 2020, law enforcement officers executing a search warrant at Burrell’s residence found 2,521 wax folds and three sandwich-sized clear plastic bags containing more than 300 grams of fentanyl, approximately $34,000 in U.S. currency, and a loaded handgun in a bedroom used by Burrell. That same day, Burrell was arrested in Camden County, New Jersey. A search incident to arrest found him to be in possession of 418 wax folds containing fentanyl.

In addition to the prison term, Burrell was sentenced to five years of supervised release.

Sellinger's office says this prosecution is part of the Violent Crime Initiative (VCI) in Camden, which was formed in 2020 to combat violent crime in and around the city.

As part of this partnership, federal, state, county, and city agencies collaborate and pool resources to investigate and prosecute violent offenders who endanger the safety of the community.
