Longtime Head of The ACUA to Receive NJ Environmental Award
Rick Dovey, the former president of the Atlantic County Utilities Authority, has been selected as a recipient of the Environmental Legacy Award by the New Jersey Environmental Lobby.
The award is given to people who have significantly contributed to protecting New Jersey's natural resources.
The Former ACUA Head is being Honored
Dovey served as the President of the ACUA for 33 years before retiring in 2023.
He is a strong proponent of renewable and sustainable energy.
Rick Dovey was responsible for making the ACUA the home of NJ's first commercial wind farm, a 500-kilowatt solar installation, a landfill gas-to-energy project, and New Jersey's first and largest energy storage battery project.
Rick Dovey's ACUA Threw a Good Earth Day Party
The thing I came to equate Rick Dovey with was the ACUA's annual Earth Day celebration, which they bill as South Jersey's largest.
The ACUA Earth Day Festival always brings in huge crowds, hundreds of vendors, crafters, and exhibitors, and displays of eco-friendly things to learn about.
People are encouraged to tour the wastewater treatment plant and recycling center, watch composting demonstrations, and find out more about living an environmentally positive lifestyle.
Rick Dovey's influence was all over the ACUA's Earth Day party.
"The event helps to instill an appreciation for the environment, educates the community about the important work we do here at ACUA, and highlights the accomplishments of many community groups and organizations in our area,” Dovey said when asked about the annual celebration.
Rick Dovey's Legacy at the ACUA
Rick Dovey is responsible for shaping ACUA into an award-winning, nationally recognized organization noted for its excellence in innovation, efficiency, and environmental stewardship.
Under Dovey’s leadership, the ACUA has initiated several renewable energy and sustainability projects that have saved the ACUA and its ratepayers more than $25 million and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by more than 111,200 metric tons.
Dovey will be presented with the award at an awards dinner on Nov. 8th.
The New Jersey Environmental Lobby promotes wise stewardship and conservation of our land, air, water, and other natural resources.
