A man in Gloucester County has been charged with attempted homicide after he allegedly fired a gun at a woman.

Authorities in Franklin Township say they were called to the 1500 block of Weymouth Road around 4:30 early Saturday morning after they received a 9-1-1 call about a shooting.

Police arrived and located a 26-year-old woman at a neighbor's house after she had escaped from her home by jumping out of a window.

The victim told police that a 24-year-old man in her house fired a gun toward her before she was able to flee. She was taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries sustained while going through the window.

Officers and SWAT Team members immediately surrounded the home in an effort to make contact with the man, however, he had fled the scene.

That man was later seen by a Franklin Township detective getting into a vehicle near a local convenience store. A high-risk motor vehicle stop was conducted and the man was taken into custody without incident.

That unidentified man has been charged with first-degree attempted homicide, aggravated assault, and weapons-related offenses.

During the course of their investigation, police say search warrants were executed on homes in the 1500 block of Weymouth Road and the 1100 block of Fries Mill Road.

The incident is being investigated by the Franklin Township Police Department and the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office's Major Crimes Unit.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
