On Friday, 45-year-old Joseph Cavallaro of Manchester pleaded guilty to an attempted murder charge and now potentially faces ten years in state prison.

Police Responded to Distress Call in Manchester

The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office says at around noon on June 27th, officers with the Manchester Township Police Department responded to the Pine Acres Manor Mobile Home Community for a report of a woman in distress in a mobile home.

Once inside, cops found a 71-year-old woman with significant injuries to her face and body. She was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune where she underwent treatment and was later released.

An investigation revealed that the victim was Cavallaro's mother and the two had gotten into an argument that turned physical.

Victim Suffered Serious Injuries

Authorities say Cavallaro assaulted his mother in her home, causing her to lose consciousness and suffer a concussion, fractured ribs, fractured skull, and facial fractures.

Cavallaro was taken into custody that day without incident and has been held in the Ocean County Jail since.

When he entered his guilty plea, he admitted to the court that his purpose in assaulting his mother was an attempt to kill her.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer thanked the Manchester Township Police Department, the Manchester Fire Prevention Bureau, and the Ocean County Sheriff's Office for their work in this case.
