Prosecutor: Camden County, NJ Man Charged With Killing His Wife
Authorities say a man from Voorhees Township, Camden County, has been arrested and charged with killing his wife on Tuesday.
49-year-old Shawn Lichtfuss was arrested Tuesday night and charged with first-degree murder, according to Acting Camden County Prosecutor Jill Mayer and Voorhees Twp. Police Chief Louis Bordi.
In a press release, Mayer's office said the Voorhees Twp. Police Department received a call Tuesday morning from a person who was concerned about Lichtfuss' well-being after receiving text messages that implied that he may harm himself.
Mayer says, "At approximately 11:06 a.m., officers arrived at Lichtfuss’s residence located on the 1400 block of Lincoln Drive in the Village Apartments. Upon receiving no response at the door, officers made entry into the residence. Once inside, they located the victim’s deceased body in a bedroom. Lichtfuss was not located inside the residence."
That evening at about 6:00, Lichtfuss was found at a Royal Farms convenience store parking lot that's located next to the Voorhees Twp. Police Department and arrested.
After performing an autopsy on his wife, 38-year-old Stefanie Caraway, the medical examiner determined the cause of death to be neck compression and the manner of death to be homicide.
Lichtfuss is currently being held in the Camden County Correctional Facility pending a detention hearing.
The public is reminded that all persons charged with crimes are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
