Sure, it's winter, but this is getting ridiculous.

Now, we've had worse winters before here in New Jersey. We've seen a heck of a lot more snow and it's been a heck of a lot colder, but this recent string of bone-chilling weather seems to be really bothering people.

I'd be flustered, too, if it's been over a week since the latest snowstorm and my street is as rough and bumpy as the surface of Mars. Some roads are in really good shape while others have barely seen a snowplow.

And what a snowstorm it was... it started out as some very powdery (i.e., easy to brush off of your car) snow -- and we got about half of a foot of it -- but then some sleet mixed in before it rained for several hours. And then everything froze for a week.

The result: for the first time in a long time, you could walk across the snowpack in your yard and not sink. I gotta admit, it was pretty cool at first. It took a couple of days for my dog to figure it out -- that was kinda funny. The bad part was (and you found this out very quickly), if you didn't dig your car out right away, it got entombed in concrete-like snow boulders.

As we all know, Mother Nature can be cruel sometime and she can also have a sense of humor. At Atlantic City International Airport, Monday and again today, we actually went above freezing!

But don't get used to that because it ain't gonna last.

There are two chances of snow in the next few days. Neither one looks to me impactful, but it's just enough for Mother Nature to remind us who is in charge.

The first chance is later tonight into early tomorrow morning. Some light snow or snow showers are possible and we could see a coating, more or less.

The second chance of seeing fresh white stuff comes in Friday. Again, it doesn't look like a big deal.

What will be a big deal is another rush of arctic air that comes in behind Friday's snow. High temperatures for the weekend will likely struggle to hit 20° while nighttime lows will return to the single digits.

And if you're wondering if we'll really break out of this cold snap anytime soon, it doesn't look that way. The middle of February looks to be closer to average for this time of year, which is the low 40s (almost a heat wave relative to what we've had recently).

Finally, I'll offer you some long-term hope. It's never snowed after April 24th at ACY airport -- that's 80 days from now. Statistically speaking, you can put your snow shovel away then. We'll kick off Memorial Day Weekend in a mere 108 days and the first day of summer is 138 flips of the calendar away.

Hang in there, South Jersey. Oh, and watch out for the potholes -- they'll be appearing soon.
