Without ‘Son Of The City,’ There Would Not Be A Stockton Atlantic City
A large, “Who’s Who” crowd gathered last evening at the Stockton University Atlantic City Campus.
Stockton University President Joe Bertolino declared that “without Senator Bill Gormley, we would not be standing here tonight.”
This was Bertolino’s declaration and recognition that Gormley was the single most important driving force behind the conception, development and ultimate creation of the Stockton University Atlantic City Campus.
Bertolino delivered a great speech about the significant impact of Bill Gormley. Bertolino is a humble, good man.
Nelson Johnson, a former New Jersey Superior Court Judge, historian and “Boardwalk Empire” author said the same thing before a large crowd that assembled at the Stockton University Atlantic City Campus to honor Senator Gormley.
Nelson Johnson said that Stockton University Atlantic City Campus, “is the single most important thing in Atlantic City of the past 25 years.”
“Son Of The City”
John Froonjian, a former Press of Atlantic City special units staff writer and former (Stockton University) executive director of William J. Hughes Center for Public Policy has written the most definitive piece about Senator Gormley’s life, career and many public contributions.
Froonjian spent the past two years writing an eight (8) chapter opus about the life and times of Bill Gormley.
The Press of Atlantic City Will Serialize The Gormley Book
Buzz Keough, executive editor of The Press of Atlantic City has given the green light and will publish Froonjian’s Gormley biography … with one chapter being published every week for eight weeks.
Stockton University Will Publish The Book
Following The Press of Atlantic City exclusive, Stockton University will assemble “Son Of The City” into an e-book that will be available free of charge.
Gormley Was Humble & Credited Others
Gormley spoke about the many people in the room whom he credits with making everything during his elective public service career possible.
Gormley shined the spotlight on his wife, Ginny, who Gormley said was “the one who had all of the ideas. I got the credit, but, it was Ginny who really deserves the credit,” said Bill Gormley.
Following the publication of “Son Of The City,” I will do a follow-up in terms of the content in the eight chapter Senator Bill Gormley biography.
Here are a few more photos from last evening’s special event with Senator Bill Gormley:
It was such a pleasure (with my wife, Margie) to be in the same room with many of the most (Atlantic City area) consequential people of the past 40-plus years … all in the same room, at the same time.
It is likely the last time that this large group of citizens will all be together.
Gormley left office more than 18 years ago and last evening was a fitting tribute … yet, Gormley’s philanthropy continues in high gear.
