Atlantic City Police say a 17-year-old male who had fled from officers investigating shots being fired a day earlier has been identified and arrested.

Cops say on the afternoon of December 10th, officers responded to the 1300 block of Drexel Avenue for a ShotSpotter alert. Arriving officers located evidence of gunfire. A description of possible suspects was obtained and provided to officers.

While searching for suspects, cops located a man in the 1100 block of Sewell Avenue that matched one of the suspect’s descriptions. Upon exiting their vehicle, the 17-year-old male fled. While running from officers, the male threw a loaded handgun into the street.

On Wednesday, the fleeing teen was arrested while the investigation into the shots being fired continues.

The 17-year-old male was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of hollow-point ammunition, obstruction of justice, and resisting arrest. He was released to a parent with a future court date.
