South Jersey will have one less free beach during the summer of 2027.

Upper Township Votes Unanimously to Approve Beach Tags

The Upper Township Committee voted unanimously to approve the sale of beach tags to use the beaches in Strathmere, which is located in Upper Township, starting in the summer of 2027.

Expected Revenue and Rising Beach Operational Costs

The hope is that the beach tags can help generate money to help offset rising costs.  The committee estimates about $200,000-$300,000 in revenue for the Township from the beach tags.

The money will go towards beach maintenance and operations, like paying for lifeguards.

Strathmere joins neighboring towns Ocean City, Sea Isle, Avalon, and Stone Harbor, which also charge to use their beaches in Cape May County.
