Kenny Smith exemplified what it means to be brave during a shooting that took place at the football game between Pleasantville and Camden High Schools.

NJ.com reports that Smith received an award this week from Camden's sheriff for rescuing and shielding a 10-year-old girl during the gunfire.

Smith says, however, that he feels like he shouldn't receive an award just for being himself. He said that he tried to calm the child when he told her that he was there for her and everything was going to be okay.

Later, Smith would come to discover that the 10-year-old he saved was actually one of his teammate's siblings.
